Overview

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Cook to join our Special Education Needs School. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in kitchen operations and a commitment to delivering high-quality meals. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in meal preparation and food safety, ensuring that our students an staff enjoy delicious and nutritious meals.

This is a school termly position requiring a daily running of a school kitchen with an assistant.

Working hours will typically be 7:30am - 4:30pm

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a weekly menu for the school.
  • Prepare and bake bread, biscuits and cakes for daily snacks.
  • Assist with meal preparation, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and properly stored.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, adhering to food safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during lunch periods.
  • Monitor food quality during preparation and presentation to ensure it meets required standards.
  • Help with inventory management, including ordering supplies when necessary.
  • Participate in training new kitchen staff on cooking techniques and food safety practices.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar culinary role within a school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation of a range of cuisines including: British, Asian, Caribbean, African, European, Mexican and South American.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure according to a daily schedule.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Familiarity with learners with SEN an advantage.

We are looking to relocate the school to Thornton Heath in the near future but do not have an exact date for the day when work will commence. However, we are eager to speak with candidates in advance of the relocation. We're looking forward to meeting you and having you join our team.
