School Nurse

We are seeking to appoint a School Nurse to join our team as soon as possible. This role is crucial in ensuring the well-being of students by providing both physical and mental health care. The successful applicant would not only offer immediate care but also act as a liaison to more specialised services when necessary

This is a term time position with a working schedule of 24 hours a week, either as one 24 hour shift or divided into other shifts, is required, dependant on workload and at the discretion of the Hiring Manager.

As a School Nurse, your responsibilities would include:

  • Comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and ensure that processes are adhered to for the safe ordering, custody, storing, disposing and administration of all medication. Accept responsibility for the safe storage of medication within the department.
  • Assess, implement and evaluate pupils that attend the Medical Centre, whilst maintaining the highest possible standard of care and preserve the dignity and confidence of each pupil. Alert the designated safeguarding leads (DSL and/or DDSLs) to any situation which raises safeguarding or child protection concerns.
  • Maintain accurate medical records of pupils, to liaise with parents/guardians to gain accurate information as and when needed.
  • Set up doctors’ surgeries for the boarding pupils on site and arrange external appointments as needed.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, such as House Parents, pupils’ families and Head of Pupil Healthcare about pupils as appropriate.
  • Revalidate in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines

What we are looking for:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) qualification (Level 1)
  • Current Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Previous experience of working with young people
  • A good standard of English and Maths
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous experience working in a school or with young people
  • Experience of working in mental health with adolescents (desirable)
  • Ability to use school information management systems (iSAMS) (desirable)
  • Use of safeguarding reporting software Myconcern (desirable)
