We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Technician to join our dynamic science department. This role is integral to the successful delivery of our science curriculum, providing technical and practical support to ensure a safe, efficient, and engaging learning environment for our students.

Role Purpose:

To support the Senior Science Technician in the preparation, organisation, and maintenance of resources and equipment required for practical science activities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in coordinating and maintaining practical resources for science lessons.
  • Ensure laboratories and preparation areas are well-stocked, clean, and organised.
  • Support the management of specialist resources, including animal and plant collections, while adhering to relevant regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment, including for microbiological, radioactive, and chemical work, in line with COSHH regulations.
  • Operate and monitor systems for the safe storage and disposal of materials, including hazardous substances.
  • Collaborate with staff to support the delivery of engaging and safe practical activities.
  • Provide first aid for minor laboratory injuries and maintain first aid equipment.

Health and Safety:

  • Uphold safety standards and protocols, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Support the safe operation of laboratories and preparation rooms.
  • Maintain a comprehensive resource bank of safety information.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential: GCSEs (Grade C/4 or higher) in English, Maths, and Science.
  • Desirable: A-levels or equivalent in Science or a related field; First Aid qualification.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Essential: Strong organisational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including CLEAPSS, and prior experience in a similar role or school setting.

Huish Episcopi Academy is a large, non-selective, mixed secondary school for pupils aged 11-18 based in the heat of the Somerset Levels with a large catchment area.
