Oasis Academy Don Valley is seeking an inspirational  Second in Department for English to help drive success and excellence across the department. This role is perfect for a current leader who has demonstrated the ability to improve teaching and learning strategies, boost student engagement, and consistently enhance outcomes.

As the Second in Department for English, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Faculty Lead in delivering a strategically aligned and impactful curriculum across KS3 and KS4. Working collaboratively with subject leaders and teachers, you will be instrumental in monitoring, evaluating, and planning for improvements, ensuring that students benefit from a high-quality and engaging English education. This role will also involve contributing to whole-school activities and fostering collaboration across different faculties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Faculty Lead and TLR holders to evaluate and enhance the English curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school's core values.
  • Lead on the mapping, sequencing, and delivery of the KS3 and KS4 curriculum, ensuring a broad and balanced programme that maximises student outcomes in line with the Oasis Curriculum.
  • Support staff in planning lessons that reflect best practices, include a variety of teaching strategies, and are effectively differentiated for individual student needs.
  • Actively monitor and assess the progress of students, using data to inform future planning and ensure that all students are prepared for the demands of public examinations and coursework.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional learning within the department, leading CPL sessions and supporting the development of colleagues.

  • Engage students in extracurricular activities that inspire a love of English and enrich their learning experience beyond the classroom.

  • Play an active role in maintaining a disciplined, safe, and healthy learning environment in line with school policies.

Ideal Candidate:

  • An aspiring leader in an educational setting, with experience in curriculum development and a track record of improving student outcomes at KS3 and KS4.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English.
  • Ability to inspire and engage both students and colleagues, fostering a positive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills, with a clear commitment to raising standards and supporting the professional growth of the department.
  • Experience in leading professional development programmes and collaborating with a range of stakeholders including parents, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, safeguarding, and the well-being of all students, ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all.
