Secondary School Teachers hold an important role at ICS as they guide our older students on their path to IB exams, university, and future career choices. Our Secondary Teachers must demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining a collaborative culture and a supportive environment within the school. They need to have a thorough understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning and encourage students to share their joys and concerns knowing they will always be supported.  

 

We are seeking an IB Diploma Business Management Teacher with the possibility of teaching IB DP Economics and also with the possibility of teaching Individuals and Societies (Humanities) classes (Grades 6 to 10). This position is a part-time allocation and may be combined with other teaching subjects.


Teachers at ICS are responsible for ensuring that their practice inside and outside the classroom is in harmony with the educational philosophy of the school. All teachers are members of departmental, grade level and secondary teams and as such share responsibility for positively supporting school change as outlined in the school’s strategic plan.


Specific Responsibilities

 

Teaching and Learning

  • Teaching IB Diploma Business Management classes for Grades 11 and/or 12
  • Possibility of teaching IB MYP Individuals and Societies (Humanities) classes from Grades 6 to 10
  • Teaching the Personal Development Programme to the class for which he/she is a tutor
  • Using technology to enhance learning


Assessment and Reporting

  • Ensuring assessments support ongoing learning and providing timely, relevant and appropriate feedback to students on formative and summative assessments
  • Keeping parents informed about the learning of their children, proactively communicating with parents
  • Recording and reporting student progress following the procedures established by the school

 

Curriculum development

  • Ensuring curriculum plans are up-to-date
  • Constructing learning activities that challenge students and demonstrate an understanding of the diverse needs of the students in their classes
  • Contributing to the planning and delivery of interdisciplinary curriculum projects

 

Social and emotional aspects of learning as a teacher and tutor

  • Supporting the social and emotional well-being of the students in their classes
  • Demonstrating effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learning
  • Informing, in a timely manner that allows for early intervention, tutors and the Secondary Pastoral
  • Leadership Team about issues of concern related to student welfare, achievement and behaviour

 

Supporting the collaborative culture at ICS

  • Contributing positively to the collaborative culture of his/her teams by being an engaged participant in team and Secondary School meetings
  • Liaising with the Head of Department and IB Coordinators to ensure that programme requirements are met within the classes taught
  • Supervising Personal Projects and Extended Essays as required
  • Participating in student recognition processes including assemblies, academic and extracurricular awards ceremonies etc
  • Contributing to the field trip programme
  • Adhering to Secondary School deadlines
  • Assisting, as requested, with cover of classes for absent colleagues
  • Assisting, as requested, with the administration of exams
  • Attending Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences as one means of providing feedback on students’ progress, attainment and learning targets
  • Contributing to Extra Curricular Activities to enhance the school experience for learners


The successful candidate will have:

  •  Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current classroom teacher qualification to teach Individuals & Societies, Humanities or Social Studies at Secondary level.
  • Experience of teaching Business Management within the upper Secondary school range.
  • Minimum 4 years recent and relevant Secondary School classroom experience.
  • Experience in an international school environment is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience of theIB Diploma and Middle Years programmes.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching learners with diverse needs.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Competence in using technology for both learning and information management purposes.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • A specialist, up-to-date knowledge of Individuals & Societies / Humanities / Social Studies pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of the developmental needs of children of 12 - 18 years.
  • Empathy and social skills.
  • Documented record of excellence in teaching.

Terms and Conditions

The initial contract is for one year and is renewable. The generous salary and range of benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with the overall package reflecting the importance of the position. This position is a part-time allocation and may be combined with other teaching subjects.

The ICS Inter-Community School, situated in Zürich, is a mainstream, mixed gender, all-through school located in Zurich. Established in 1960, the ICS now has over 800 students from 55 nationalities.
