Job overview

Could you inspire, challenge and motivate sixth form students? Could you support students to become effective independent learners?

Could you develop the Learning Resource Centre as a ‘Learning to Learn’ and a ‘Reading for Pleasure’ centre for all students? If so this could be the job for you.

We are seeking to appoint a Study Support Manager to support the work of our excellent teams in the Sixth Form and the English Department. This is a new role and has scope to develop further in the future.

The successful candidate will play a key role to provide high quality academic mentoring to post 16 students within the Academy and to monitor and evaluate its impact. Developing and implementing strategies which contribute towards effective learning, behaviour and achievement. This role will combine working to support students with the proactive development of the Learning Resource Centre (library) as a positive working environment as well as supporting the development of reading for all students. We require staff who are excited by this opportunity and who are ready to embrace this challenge, supporting us in delivering a great local school for our local community. For all of us, staff, Governors, children and parents, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference to students’ lives.

The school has been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, most recently in January 2023:

“Teachers adapt the curriculum and their teaching resources to meet the needs of all pupils effectively. They do this particularly well for pupils with SEND. The teaching resources are carefully designed and selected so that pupils can understand and remember more over time. Teachers routinely check pupils’ understanding. When pupils do not understand the work, teachers adapt their lessons and reteach.”

Values and vision

Walsall Blue Coat Academy bases its ideals upon its Christian foundation and strives to introduce Christian aspects of teaching into all that it does.

For instance, during form time each day all students participate in a daily act of worship which includes prayer and time for reflection. Regular meetings are also held for staff and students, during which prayers are said and thoughts are focused on people in need. Certain students are also instrumental in spreading the word of Christianity through, for example, taking assemblies to junior schools.

Walsall Blue Coat Academy also has dedicated itself to striving to foster a caring attitude towards the wider global community. Indeed, each year the school raises money for a charity voted for by all students. In 2015, students raised over £4,400 for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Ofsted

“The curriculum is good and its focus on developing students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding is excellent. The academy prepares students very well for life in modern democratic Britain, and its focus on developing community cohesion is exemplary. Governors and academy sponsors provide very good support for academy leaders.”
