The Teacher of Biology will be responsible for delivering high-quality biology education to students at KS3, IGCSE, and IB DP levels, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of biological sciences. The role involves developing engaging curricula, implementing effective teaching methodologies, and supporting the holistic development of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Planning and Delivery:

Develop and implement a comprehensive biology curriculum aligned with KISU standards and international education requirements.

Teach biology to students in KS3, IGCSE, and IB DP, ensuring a cohesive educational journey.

Prepare lesson plans, deliver engaging classroom sessions, and utilize diverse teaching methods.


Student Assessment and Support:

Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and understanding.

Provide individualized support and feedback to students.

Guide students in their IB DP Extended Essays and Internal Assessments as required.


Educational Development:

Stay current with developments in biology education and pedagogy.

Attend and contribute to professional development sessions and workshops.

Collaborate with colleagues to integrate interdisciplinary approaches in teaching.


Classroom Management:

Create a positive, stimulating, and safe learning environment.

Manage student behavior effectively, ensuring a conducive classroom atmosphere.


Communication and Collaboration:

Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress.

Collaborate with other teachers, staff, and the school administration.

Participate in school events, meetings, and committees as required.


Qualifications and Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related field.

A teaching qualification such as a PGCE or equivalent, with a specialization in Biology.

Experience teaching Biology at the secondary level, including KS3, IGCSE, and IB DP.

Familiarity with the IB curriculum and assessment criteria is highly desirable.


Skills and Attributes:

The School

Founded in 1993, Kampala International School, Uganda began as a small primary school with a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. KISU has evolved considerably over the years and has undertaken an ambitious programme of expansion and development. It now boasts a purpose built school with excellent sporting facilities. Despite this phenomenal growth, the School has maintained its original aims and teaching philosophy.

The Enriched Curriculum

KISU has a programme of studies based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. French is taught to all children from Year One upwards. A programme of personal, social and health education(PSHE)  is implemented throughout the school. The curriculum has been adapted to reflect the international diversity of our school community and its location in Uganda.
