Job overview
Tes is supporting the appointment of a Teacher of Biology to join a High School based in Warsaw, Poland.
The High School is looking for a dynamic, academically-driven teacher to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a High School, which is already a well-established international school in its nineth year of operation. You would be a part of a caring and inclusive community where both their students and staff have agency and thrive while sharing a passion for learning.
About the High School:
The High School is an academically-selective school in Warsaw, offering IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Assessed Courses. With a rigorous admissions process and A Level classes taught in the form of undergraduate seminars, the school pursues a pre-university university model. The school offers a robust scholarship programme, with 10% of places allocated to merit-based, partial and full scholarships. The school also supports several educational outreach and community engagement initiatives.
About the job
You will have a chance to work with some of the most intellectually curious young minds and have the chance to inspire them through stimulating and creative lessons in small classes of up to 12 students.
You will collaborate closely at both the subject and departmental levels, working on curriculum planning, specification delivery, and broader initiatives. Your role will involve teaching Biology to students aged 14-18, across IGCSE and A Level courses.
As a member of their Natural Sciences Department, you will collaborate with experienced professionals who value teamwork and the interdisciplinary nature of science. Their commitment to student-centred approach fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which prepares students for academic success and lifelong learning. They offer fully equipped laboratories supported by two dedicated lab managers who assist teachers in delivering practical lessons. The department consistently achieves outstanding results in external exams at both IGCSE and A Level.
Their students also participate in prestigious competitions like the British Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Olympiads, frequently earning gold medals and merit awards. Most of their STEM students go on to pursue courses in fields such as Medicine, Medical Sciences, Neurobiology, Psychology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Many receive scholarships to continue their studies at top universities worldwide. Beyond academic successes, and professional collaboration, their department nurtures a strong sense of community, and they occasionally spend time together outside of school to strengthen team spirit.
The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. Teachers are expected to either be involved in pastoral care (tutoring of a small group) or supporting student clubs and co-curricular activities. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.
Staff benefits include 12 weeks paid holiday, access to private health insurance and mental health package, subsidised lunches, professional development scheme and further qualification support. Extracurricular activities, such as afternoon clubs, supervision of Personal Development Projects and trips are paid additionally in line with the school’s extracurricular points system.
About you:
The school is looking for professionals demonstrably committed to pursuing a career in education. The successful candidate will be able to both inspire and widen students’ interests in their subject as well as effectively guide them in exam preparation.
