Birkdale High School is an oversubscribed and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results. We are also proud to be part of the Southport Learning Trust.

The Design Technology Department at Birkdale High School is a committed, collaborative and hard working team with a strong team ethos. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic department who have worked hard to develop a carefully sequenced and challenging curriculum. With visualisers and interactive whiteboards in every classroom, an emphasis on mastery, modelling and effective retrieval practice, we ensure that we invest time and energy in strategies that most benefit our boys. We are proud to consistently achieve excellent results in Design Technology and we are looking for an outstanding, passionate teacher to continue to contribute to further improvements in this successful department.

In recent years, our school has developed a strong culture of teacher development based upon research, a deep understanding of cognitive science and how this can transform classroom practice, and a willingness from all staff to strive to be even better than they already are. We learn from each other, celebrate good practice and help staff to flourish in their career development.

Ultimately, we aim to provide our boys with an excellent, well sequenced and considered curriculum, founded upon key core knowledge and the development of essential life skills such as reading, academic curiosity and the tools to be life-long learners. In addition, we are passionate about developing pupils’ character and ensuring that the boys become well-rounded and empowered young men.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher of Design Technology with outstanding potential to join a successful department with committed teachers working as a close team. The appointed candidate is required to join the team from 1 January 2025 (or sooner). This role is suitable for an ECT or a more experienced teacher.

Finding the right school is always important. Candidates are strongly encouraged to visit the school prior to the closing date. You will have the opportunity to meet the Headteacher, tour the school, and most importantly, gain a flavour of the fantastic learning environment and meet some of our wonderful boys.

We are really looking forward to meeting you.

Ofsted report

“Most recent academy progress data indicate that there will be further significant improvement at GCSE five A* to C including English and mathematics this year. Boys are making at least good progress and this was confirmed during the inspection through the observations of lessons and scrutiny of current work. Some boys, particularly the more able, are making outstanding progress.”
