Job overview
An exciting opportunity at The Perse School Cambridge has arisen for a part time (0.8) Teacher of English to start in February 2025, for a fixed term of one year. We are looking to appoint a high achieving graduate to join a supportive, energetic and collegiate department.
English and Drama are delivered together in a single department at the Upper, and these subjects offer a central position in the School’s curriculum. Whilst each member of the department is a specialist in either English or Drama, at the same time all colleagues share a passion for both subjects and most staff contribute in some way to the delivery of both. We recognise the essential, functional elements of the subject and the importance of powerful knowledge but, perhaps more importantly, we are keen to inspire students with the creative elements of the subject which can influence personal growth, nurture the imagination and develop higher order cross curricular skills. The department offers an enviably wide range of creative writing, drama, public speaking, literacy and study tour opportunities to all pupils. We aim to enable all members of the school to flourish academically in our subjects, inspiring them to degree level and beyond whilst experiencing some of the cultural riches of language, literature and the theatre.
Beyond the curriculum the department organises a wide range of activities in which all pupils can participate, including an extensive programme of in-house drama productions, debating and public speaking events, trips to the theatre and other cultural events, clubs and societies, and competitions.
The Perse School Cambridge is one of the country’s leading independent co-educational day schools for children aged 3-18, who attend our Pelican, Prep or Upper.
Our aim is to be a leading employer of choice. This means we strive to be a school where staff say they are proud and excited to work, and feel valued, respected and motivated.
We are committed to providing a very competitive salary and benefits scheme at the same time as offering a wide range of opportunities for personal and professional development. We want our staff to feel engaged and purposeful so that they, in turn, help pupils to be happy and successful.
