Job overview

South Island School seeks to appoint an outstanding English Teacher to teach English Language and English Literature. 

The successful applicant will be a highly skilled teacher, with the ability to motivate, inspire and engage with students, both within and outside the classroom – with the overall goal of ensuring excellent educational outcomes for our students. They will be a first language English speaker with previous experience teaching both English Language and English Literature courses. Previous experience of IB MYP, IGCSE and IB Diploma is desirable.

The successful applicant will also be a pastoral tutor, as well as contributing widely to the extra-curricular life of the school. The position will be a full-time renewable contract for an initial two-year period from August 2025. Support with obtaining Hong Kong residence will be provided if necessary.


Responsibilities

Teachers at SIS are expected to be committed and flexible. Regular duties include:

  • Planning lessons to meet each student’s individual learning needs
  • Ensuring excellent outcomes and progress, in line with our Unit Plans
  • Using a range of appropriate strategies for positive classroom management, including the use of flexible groupings and structured inquiry, in line with the IBO philosophy
  • Enhancing learning through a range of well-considered resources, including digital technologies
  • Maintaining a well-organised and stimulating learning environment
  • Assessing students in relation to agreed learning outcomes
  • Providing clear and constructive feedback to students and parents, in line with South Island School reporting systems
  • Working closely with the English faculty on future developments and shared planning
  • Working as a tutor for a group of students, within the Pastoral Learning Curriculum
  • Engaging actively with the Making a Difference, Values in Action and Expanding Horizons extra-curricular programmes


Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
