We are looking to appoint an outstanding individual to join us at Cheadle Hulme School as Teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition from January 2025.

The Department 

The Food Preparation and Nutrition Department currently consists of 2 full-time and one part-time member of teaching staff. Teaching is supported throughout the week by two part-time technicians. The Department has two food rooms that are maintained to a high standard, each room has an interactive board. Equipment and resources are replaced on a regular cycle to ensure the pupils are using the safest and most hygienic tools possible.

The Department has an excellent record at GCSE, with 83% of candidates achieving grade 7 or above in 2023.

The Department teaches all pupils in Year 8 in half-class sizes for two periods per fortnightly timetable cycle. In Year 9, Food Preparation and Nutrition is a popular option subject (chosen by 57% of the year group in 2023) with three periods per cycle. The OCR GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition specification is taught in five periods per cycle in Years 10 & 11.

The Department offers a range of co-curricular activities including a Young Chef Club, and Food Science Clubs for pupils in Years 7 and 8. Pupils can participate in national competitions such as the Springboard FutureChef Competition, and the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

The Department also runs trips in each key stage to consolidate classroom learning.
