Job overview
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking department committed to fostering academic excellence and inspiring a love of Mathematics in students at all levels.
The Mathematics Department is a highly successful and dynamic team, comprising 14 dedicated teachers with diverse backgrounds and extensive experience. The department thrives under strong and supportive leadership, fostering a collaborative and ambitious teaching environment. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher with the ability to inspire students across all abilities. They will be expected to teach Mathematics from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 4, as well as A-Level Mathematics. A willingness to teach both Pure and Applied Mathematics at A-Level is essential. Additionally, the role involves taking on specific responsibilities within the department.
Mathematics sets are structured flexibly and reviewed biannually to allow for movement between sets where appropriate. However, during the final year leading up to GCSEs, changes are minimised to maintain stability. From the First to Fifth Year, students are grouped by ability, with the highest-ability sets having the largest numbers and lower-ability sets kept smaller to ensure more focused, individualised support.
The department utilises a wide range of high-quality resources to deliver an engaging and effective curriculum. In the First and Second Year, the "Essential Maths" series forms the core of the teaching materials. For the Third to Fifth Year, a variety of textbooks and supplementary resources are employed to support the curriculum. The department is exceptionally well-resourced, offering an array of equipment and mathematical software such as Mathswatch, Integral Maths and MathsPad to enhance both teaching and learning.
Consistently achieving outstanding academic results, the Mathematics Department’s success is built on the dedication and expertise of its staff. At Key Stage 4, all students sit the International GCSE, with the highest-performing sets also entering the IGCSE Further Mathematics course. The department has a proven record of excellence at both IGCSE and A-Level, with Mathematics being the most popular subject at A-Level.
At A-Level, the department consistently achieves a 100% pass rate, with at least 70% of students attaining A*-A grades in Mathematics. In Further Mathematics, results are equally impressive, with over 90% of students achieving A*-A grades in recent years. An increasing number of students are progressing to study Mathematics in higher education, a pathway actively supported and encouraged by the department. The Edexcel GCE specification underpins the A-Level curriculum, with resources endorsed by Pearson forming the basis of the teaching programme.
The department operates from dedicated classrooms, all equipped with roller boards and Interactive Whiteboards. Staff members also have access to office space. To support innovative and effective teaching practices, each member of staff is provided with both an iPad and a laptop.
Please note, all applications will be reviewed on receipt and shortlisted candidates may be invited for interview at short notice. Therefore, early submission is encouraged.
Single staff accommodation may be available on-site.

Benefits of living and working in Weybridge
Weybridge is a small popular town with a good selection of branded and independent shops, great places to eat and beautiful woodlands and canal walks. Weybridge station offers at least four trains an hour taking only 29 minutes to reach London Waterloo station.
The College is situated on the outskirts of Weybridge on an attractive 100-acre site conveniently close to the intersection of the M3 and M25 motorways and just 20 minutes from Heathrow airport.
Academics
There are over 130 teaching staff in the College with an equal split of men and women, and some staff live on campus. Rachel Owens is the incumbent Headmistress, and she and the College are members of HMC and CISC.
The school has a selective entry and is oversubscribed. The majority of children join in First Year (Year 7), although there is a smaller entry into Third Year (Year 9) and the Sixth Form (Lower Sixth). Where space allows, new students may also arrive out of these usual intakes into Second, Third and Fourth Years.
New staff and induction
There is strong support for new teaching staff starting at the College, with an extensive induction programme. Newly appointed staff are encouraged to visit in the Summer Term to receive training and guidance from the Head of Department prior to the beginning of their employment. In addition, the College offers support and on-going training for newly qualified teaching staff lead by Mr Andy Cornick, Deputy Head (Operations) who is responsible for the welfare of new staff. There is an active and social Common Room committee and a broad range of teaching staff, many who have depth of experience and knowledge of St George’s from several years with us. QTS induction is facilitated.
All the teaching staff receive excellent support from business staff: the Bursar directs over 120 College employees including administration, IT, finance and catering. The annual appraisal scheme encourages staff to develop their careers and supports them in identifying training or study to assist in their development as teachers.
We aim to provide a caring and nurturing atmosphere at our independent day school – not just for our students. For everyone who works with us too, we want to make this an enjoyable and fulfilling environment. If you’d like to be part of it, you can look forward to excelling training and support, not to mention a range of outstanding benefits.
