Job overview

Greater Manchester Academies Trust is made up Manchester Communication Academy, Manchester Communication Primary Academy and Manchester Communication Research School.

Our ambition is to provide the highest quality education for children and young people in the urban context of Manchester. At GMAT, we believe passionately in the power of an excellent education to transform lives and futures and feel that we can build on our social investment activities, local knowledge, community relationships and strong partnerships to make this happen.

At the heart of our Trust are our five core values: trustworthy; helpful; inspiring; straightforward and heart.

The School

Manchester Communication Academy is a vibrant school that is at the heart of the community and is committed to improving educational outcomes for all of our students. MCA is proud to be a community hub and our outward facing work is exceptional.

Manchester Communication Academy serves the community of Harpurhey and its surrounding districts. We are an 11-16 secondary school with a primary school also on site. Close collaboration between the two schools is fundamental to our way of working.

Together, our driving force is to mitigate the impact of disadvantage and ensuring that the young people that we serve are equipped and ready to be successful and happy adults who we are proud to know.

In our Ofsted inspection in 2019 we were recognised as a GOOD school and want to build on this by recruiting excellent practitioners that are driven by evidence informed practice. MCA received Research School status in September 2019 and we are proud of the work that we conduct in partnership with the EEF and how this drives our teaching practice.

Everyone at MCA shares these same values and this is important to us. If you share these values too, then we would love to hear from you!

The Department

The Maths team at MCA has gone from strength to strength in the past 4 years with constantly improving results. The progress of our students in Maths is considerably above the national average. The team have embedded a curriculum that is challenging and engaging resulting in high performance from both staff and students. The curriculum is innovative and focused on developing students’ lifelong love of mathematics as well as achieving results the students deserve. Students at MCA have four lessons of Maths a week and the subject is highly valued by them. Our standards are high and we pride ourselves on our ability to inspire and excite all our pupils to exceed their potential.

Collaborative planning enables us to manage teacher workload and ensure a balance between teacher autonomy and consistency. All of our schemes of work identify the core knowledge and suggested activities with accompanying resources, but teachers are liberated to plan according to their students’ needs and in keeping with the principles of effective teaching and learning. At KS4, our students undertake the Edexcel Maths GCSEs and some students study statistics. We engage our students in ambitious and challenging study, which is supported by exciting extra-curricular trips and events that bring the study to life.

The Maths team is a wonderful group of practitioners, all of which are subject experts and they demonstrate an unwavering commitment to professional development. You will be a part of a department who embrace the latest developments in mathematics teaching and our detailed programme of weekly staff CPD will support you to deliver the highest quality of education. Our departmental Teacher Educator, who is an EEF Research School Evidence Lead in Education, facilitates the sessions. Thus, the sessions are evidence-informed and impactful. Our collaborative approach to curriculum development ensures that we have a collective focus on continuous improvement.

We work as a team and support each other, including being proactive in embedding a positive learning culture on corridors and in classrooms. These strong professional relationships are enriched through regular catch-ups in the workroom, social events and celebrations.

Further information about the role and our school is available in the attached Applicant Information Pack.

The closing date for applications is 8am on Tuesday 24th September 2024

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel free to get in touch to discuss the role.

Manchester Communication Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure for a Regulated Activity via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
