About the role

St Ninian’s High School is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Modern Foreign Languages who can confidently and competently teach French and Spanish at Key Stage three and GCSE.

This post is being offered as either a permanent contract or as a limited term appointment for two terms (Spring & Summer terms 2025).

The role will provide you with an interesting and rewarding position within the framework of a strong and important area of the school, an ideal opportunity for an Early Careers Teacher or a more experienced Teacher seeking a fresh challenge. You will have the desire to share and develop your own good practice, and contribute to the development of others.

Our ethos is to foster the character of our students through the development of good habits which reflect our three core values of Respect; Aspiration and Empowerment. Your passion for inclusion and equality will match our school's ethos of celebrating diversity, developing independence and encouraging a growth mindset.

You are welcome to get in touch and visit the School to view the facilities and have the opportunity to meet members of the senior and subject staff.

A workplace that invests in you

A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.

Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, you will be offered two pensions arrangements, the Teachers Superannuation scheme or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) arrangement.

If you are returning to the island and have participated in the Department’s Student Loan scheme for tuition fees, the loan will be repaid by the Department upon completion of your second year working as a teacher at one of the island’s schools (subject to a maximum of £7,500 for a three year degree course, or £10,000 for a four year degree course).

For those relocating or returning to the island you will receive a refund on your national insurance contributions during the first 12 months of your employment, up to £4,400.

If you are an Early Career Teacher, you will receive payments of £2,000 at the beginning of your first and second school years in teaching, following the completion of the ECT induction period (2 years).

✔ Financial support to get you, your family and your belongings, including one motor vehicle to the Isle of Man. We will pay 70% of any removal or storage costs incurred.

Help to pay your rent/mortgage while you settle in with a housing allowance up to £500 per month over 2 years.

If you are relocating to the Isle of Man, you will receive financial help towards the costs of visiting to the Island to view housing and to visit your new school. You are eligible to receive up to £325 each for you and your partner and, if applicable, £140 each for up to 2 dependent children.

A subject shortage allowance of up to £500 a month for a maximum of 8 months if you are offered a permanent position in a Maths, English or Science teaching position (without TLR).

✔ Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.

✔ Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.

✔ Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and sign-posting on a wide range of issues.

✔ Discounted access to the NSC gym and island swimming pools as well as 1-to-1 support programmes and exercise classes with qualified instructors through the ACTIV8 scheme.

✔ Free on-site car parking.

A relocation package based on receipts is available for this role.
