Job overview

Due to the growth of our Sixth Form, we are seeking an engaging and passionate teacher to deliver Sociology and/or Politics to highly motivated girls in Key Stage 5. Both subjects are popular A Level options.

The successful candidate should have the capability to teach A level, creating challenging and thought-provoking lessons, with an emphasis on creativity and collaboration.

The ability to offer a second subject for KS3, such as a Humanities subject, or another Social Science at KS5 (such as Psychology, Business or Economics) would be an advantage. Please ensure that you state any additional subjects that you can offer in your application.

This role would be suited to an ECT, who is looking to join a supportive department and faculty with superb ECT provision for professional development.

The role would also suit an experienced teacher.

Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received, and we reserve the right to close this vacancy early, should a suitable applicant be found.

About Sutton High School

Sutton High School is an academically selective independent day school for 900 girls with an age range of 3 to 18 years. We are situated on a green and leafy site in central Sutton, close to excellent public transport links and with specialist contemporary learning facilities such as Design Studios, a Ceramics Room, an Emilio Reggio EYFS Building, an amphitheatre and Oracy Space.

Both Senior and Prep schools hold strong positions in the top schools nationally and attract girls from a wide geographical area and variety of backgrounds, resulting in an inclusive school community where individuality is celebrated and girls are fiercely independent. Our values of Courage, Truth and Joy are at the heart of all we do.

The school is a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) and the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA). Membership of the GDST, the largest group of independent schools in the country, gives us unrivalled opportunities for training and sharing of good practice in teaching and learning.

Examination results at Sutton High are consistently high and significantly above the national average. In the summer of 2023, girls achieved 75% 9-7 grades at GCSE, with over half of grades at 9/8.

Our girls benefit from expert advice and guidance about higher education and the world of work, as we have our own specialist who organises interviews, work experience placements and careers fairs and the majority of pupils go on to study at Russell Group universities.
