Role: Teaching Assistant

Hours: Term Time Only /Monday-Friday 40 hours per week - Permanent

Location: Meir, Staffordshire

Salary: £23,841- £25,196 per annum

What does the role entail:

The postholder will attend to pupils’ personal needs and implement related personal programmes including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters. You will supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning. Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs. The postholder will promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities lead by the teacher. The postholder will be actively involved and fully participate in activities such as PE that aim to stimulate and encourage the movement skills of pupils/students. Encouraging pupils to act as independently as appropriate.

You will be reporting to the Lead Teacher and work closely to provide support to the other teaching support staff and support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and classrooms.

Supporting the Teacher:

  • Prepare classrooms and clean the school as directed for lessons, clear afterward and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
  • Be aware of pupil problems/progress/achievements and report to the teacher as agreed.
  • Undertake pupil record keeping as requested.
  • To maintain records of the pupils’ work and progress.
  • To provide support to the pupils in all areas of the curriculum, under the direction of the Lead Teacher.
  • Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate.
  • Gather/report information from and to parents/carers as directed.
  • Provide clerical / admin support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money etc.

Support for the Curriculum:

  • Support pupils to understand instructions.
  • Support pupils in respect of local and national learning strategies, as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Support pupils in using basic ICT as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist pupils in their use.

Support for the School:

  • Be aware of and comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • In consultation with the class teacher and in the context of the school’s policies, to assist in maintaining discipline structures for pupils.
  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos /work/aims of the school.
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required.
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required including the pursuit of an HLTA Level 4 qualification.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes.
  • Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
  • To carry out simple routine maintenance of equipment needed for the pupils.
  • In consultation with the appropriate professionals to assist in meeting the particular needs of the pupils in the provision of e.g. physiotherapy, speech therapy etc.

Requirements of the role:

  • Must hold GCSE Grade C or above or equivalent in Maths and English plus 3 other subjects
  • Must hold UK Manual Drivers Licence and have access to own vehicle
  • Experience in a similar education setting preferred (but not essential)
  • Experience in school, TA qualifications
  • Experience in safeguarding
  • Able to provide support at other Northwest schools when required.
