Job overview

In this influential role, you will provide expert leadership of our Trust wide ITT and ECF programmes. You will be responsible for the recruitment and development of the Trust’s trainee teachers, working closely with Trust leaders and external partners to support them through their ITT programme and their progression to ECTs. As well as ensuring fidelity to the ITT and ECF programmes, as the Lead Mentor for the Trust, you will raise the profile of mentors, developing and supporting them so that our approach to teacher development becomes more sustainable.

The successful candidate will be a strong practitioner, experienced mentor and ITT/ECT lead with a successful track record of teacher development and recent educational leadership experience. Your expert knowledge and communication skills mean that you will be equally adept at modelling pedagogical approaches in the classroom, designing and facilitating online and in person training and providing feedback to different stakeholders. You will be attentive and responsive to the different contexts of each school and team, using excellent interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships based in trust and transparency.

The role requires travel to all partnership schools to quality assure and support the development of the beginner teachers, ECTs mentors and ITT/ECT leads as well as office/home-based working. This requires flexibility, excellent planning and organisational skills, and a ‘can do’ approach.

This role is offered on a part time basis, with the successful candidate required for 3 days a week.

Reporting

The Trust Lead: Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Teachers will report directly to the Senior Director Professional Learning and school based Senior Leaders. They will work closely with Tes Institute Pathway Tutors, Programme Leads, Senior Lead Mentor and school-based ITT leads and Induction Tutors so that all are updated on trainee and mentor progress.

You will also benefit from the comprehensive training and support from TES Institute and UCL IOE as well as the CPD programme for the Trust Central Team. 


Key responsibilities

Oversee, lead and manage the ITT and ECT Programme for the Trust, supporting the Trust vision and objectives.

Oversight of the progress and development of ITT and ECT teachers ensuring they are well supported to gain QTS/ pass ECT induction

Oversight of key marketing and recruitment activities so that recruitment targets for Post Graduate Teacher Apprenticeship and ITT programmes are met

Strategically develop schools’ and Trust capacity for ITT and ECT development, benchmarking against exemplary external practice, identifying barriers and opportunities for the attraction, development and retention of diverse early career stage teachers, aligned to the People Strategy

Cultivate and maintain excellent relationships and close communication with schools, Teaching School Hub, TES Institute and other ITT providers

Design and deliver training and lead core ITT and ECT programme workshops, both online and in person 

Monitor and quality assure the implementation of the ITT and ECT programmes, ensuring fidelity and minimum requirements are met, feeding back to all relevant stakeholders through the reporting cycle

Evaluate ITT and ECT programme engagement and impact, taking relevant action to ensure continuous quality improvement and a high-quality experience for trainees and mentors

Provide bespoke and ongoing development for schools, trainees, ECTs and mentors including a cycle of visits, supportive interventions and focussed support plans if needed

Work as part of the Habs Institute team to support key projects and promote awareness of development opportunities in the Trust

Additional specific responsibilities:

Take responsibility for one’s own development and deeply engage in the research base for early career teacher mentoring and teacher development,

Attend all induction, training and development conferences for Lead Mentors, mentors and ECT facilitators

Quality assure and support the development of ITT mentors as the Partnership Lead Mentor

Take responsibility for the planning of second school placements and intensive training and practice weeks

Stay abreast of sector developments, providing synthesised updates to relevant stakeholders as needed

Engage and develop ongoing sustainable links with external organizations including but not limited to universities, Teaching School Hubs, DFE departments educational charities and organisations

Lead ITT marketing campaign, working closely with others for the update and distribution of marketing materials, maintenance of websites and social media platforms, and successful delivery of ITT recruitment events

Coordinating and undertaking ITT interviews, liaising with colleagues to progress applicants through the recruitment phases, taking a responsive approach to schools’ evolving needs

Reflect on feedback, quality assurance findings and trainee and ECT outcomes to ensure the provision embodies the Trust values and EDI statement of intent

Promote equal opportunities and inclusion, addressing any issues immediately if they arise, , ensuring open and transparent recruitment and retention processes

Work as a key lead within the Central Team of the Trust, supporting our vision and ethos..

Report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Trust Safeguarding Policy.

Perform any other duties at the reasonable request of the Senior Director Professional Learning
