Job overview

Talbot Heath is an independent girls’ school for ages 3-18 set in pleasant grounds in Bournemouth, with an outstanding academic record. Due to an increase in demand for lessons, we are now seeking a further Woodwind teacher to complement our existing team of peripatetic music staff from October 2024.

The Music Department requires an inspirational and enthusiastic Woodwind Teacher to teach pupils across all key stages at Talbot Heath School. They will be required to plan, resource and arrange high quality individual music tuition. Initially the role will be approximately 2.5 hours per week, term time only, teaching for 30 weeks across the school year as directed by the Director of Music. We are looking to appoint an excellent flute teacher with experience teaching to the highest level, who can also offer tuition on clarinet and saxophone.

Excellent keyboard skills are highly desirable but not essential. The ability to also teach music theory to Grade 5 is advantageous.

A relevant musical qualification and teaching experience are essential and a teaching qualification is desirable. The successful applicant will be required to teach a variety of styles and should be keen to support school events and accompany pupils for exams when required. The ability to communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues is of the utmost importance.

Exam results count, but just as important are resilience, self-esteem, character, those life skills that are acquired as a result of a nurturing environment and an holistic approach to education.

It is during their formative years that young people develop the attitudes and values that they will hold for the rest of their lives. It is essential that they feel supported and nurtured in their learning environment.

At Talbot Heath the pupils flourish, not only academically but in every area, be it music, sport or the performing arts. Small classes, individual attention and the ability to tailor the provision to the needs of each student, ensure that pupils achieve their very best.

As the only Independent Girls’ School within the Bournemouth and wider Dorset area, Talbot Heath is unique. We are proud of our distinctive character and believe that we have stayed true to Mary Broad’s vision of first class education for girls with a modern twist.
