Crime and Punishment Through Time Extended Learning Project
To coincide with the move to 9-1 in GCSE History I have created three extended learning projects based on the Edexcel syllabus. The three projects are: medicine through time; warfare through time and crime and punishment through time. Each project is based on one of the studies over time with the idea being that they can be used as self taught units or extended learning built upon classroom learning. The purpose of these three projects is to prepare students for the course by developing the necessary source evaluation skills and familiarising them with the rigours of the new syllabus. All of the units could be delivered within one year or spread across the three years of Key Stage 3.

The Arrival: multimodal project
I developed a multimodal scheme of learning to try and look at some key concepts within History in a different way. The scheme uses Shaun Tan's The Arrival to introduce empathy, identity, prejudice and persecution and is a great precursor to The Holocaust. It is deliberately open ended with no titles and shared LOs at the start to encourage discussion and to allow the lessons to flow in the direction the learners lead it. I have thoroughly enjoyed both creating and delivering this scheme.
I have attached the learning scheme to explain how I have used the lessons, although of course this is open to interpretation and personalisation to suit you and your learners.
