Division and multi-step word problems

(97)
This is a resource originally created for year 5 to teach 4 lessons on efficient written methods for division and multi-step word problems. This resource is linked to APP and has 4 sets of questions, each set levelled against levels 3, 4 and 5 as appropriate. This resource also includes the answer sheets. Acknowledgements to mark100586 and Claire Tunnicliffe whose word problem question sheets I used as a basis for my differentiated multi-step word problem questions.

This is a simple version of the VCOP pyramid I created on PowerPoint that allows you to customise and use in a wide variety of ways. It can be printed and resized to suit a variety of purposes.

Class sound meter

(15)
This is a sound meter to build children's awareness of appropriate noise levels, and to manage these noise levels. You can use the arrow to either indicate to the children which sound level you want them to work at, or to show them what sound level they are currently at. I have attached both a PowerPoint and jpeg version of the resource. This resource works best laminated, and with the arrow attached by a split pin. You can also modify the wording for each level on the PowerPoint version of this resource should you wish to personalise this sound meter to your specific classroom needs.

Guided reading assessment sheets

(12)
This is a set of guided reading assessment sheets directly linked to APP. There is a sheet for each level from 1 to 5. There are 3 versions of this document depending on whether you have 6, 7 or 8 children in your guided reading groups. This sheet then consists of a series of tick boxes for each APP statement to be ticked off during guiding reading sessions when the skill is met.

Talk partners

This is a simple display that can be displayed in the class and allows you to stick the children's names up with their talk partner. A good reference point/reminder, especially with younger children.

This is a place value chart for your classroom. I have this at the top of my maths working wall and regularly refer to it to reinforce the place value of digits.

Maths Curricular Targets linked to APP

(8)
These targets sheets can be glued into the inside cover of the childrens maths book. Targets can be selected for the children by highlighting the appropriate target. The targets can then be ticked off three times either by the teacher or the children. These targets are directly linked to the magths APP and can be used to tick off each statement. I have tried to represent each bullet point from the APP as an I can statement, but in some cases I have selected a single area as the statement was too broad.

There are two versions of this file included. The first version uses the targets from the English Progression Map Guide from the National Strategy. These targets sheets can be glued into the inside cover of the childrens writing book. Targets can be selected for the children by highlighting the appropriate target. The targets can then be ticked off three times either by the teacher or the children. These targets are directly linked to the writing APP and can be used to tick off each statement.

Talk it, solve it

(3)
This is a pro-forma for creating your own talk it, solve it problems. On the first page you input possible answers and on the second page you write clues to lead the participants to the correct answer. The final set of cards are for statements that allow children to create their own 'correct answer'.

Guided writing plan

(3)
This is a planning pro-forma for guided writing during your literacy lessons and can be easily adapted for other subjects. Guided work should be a focussed 15 minute session during a lessons main activity time. There is also space to log four different groups. The try stage is where children have a go at doing what was modelled and the apply satge is where the children continue to use what they have learnt in a different situation (see tick boxes for possibilities).

This display consists of three categories over two files. It includes the basics for a sentence, the features for a super sentence, and the features for a superstar sentence. It is designed to be part of a classroom literacy display, and to familiarise children with the key vocabulary for building a sentence.

What to do if you are stuck guided work help

(1)
This display was created to support guided work in my classroom. I aim to run 15 minute guided work sessions during many of the activities during my lessons. I have a cone on my table to show that I should not be disturbed during this time and created this display to help children work out what to do when they are stuck.

Behaviour faces to manage classroom behaviour

(2)
This resource consist of 4 A4 cards; a star, a happy face, a middle face and a sad face. This resource is most effective printed on traffic light coloured paper to match the faces and laminated, with the star on yellow or gold paper. If you print your classes names on coloured paper you can move them from one face to the next depending on behaviour. I start every day with the children on green and then move them up or down as appropriate.

APP Maths statements for levels 1 to 6

(1)
This tables matches (as best as possible) the statements from the Maths APP for levels 1 through to 6. This table is designed to support planning and assessment. When planning a maths lesson on a specific subject you can see what children should be able to do at the different levels and differentiate accordingly. Where adjacent columns are blank it is either because there are two statements meeting the same area (e.g. a statement about angles below another statement about angles) or because this is an area specific to that level (e.g. algebra only appears from levels 4 to 6).

Real handwriting guidelines

(1)
I have always found handwriting guidelines a mixed blessing, as although they teach children correct letter formation, children find it hard to apply these skills into their exercise books. These guidelines are simpler and allow children to write on every line, providing a middle guide line to support the correct formation of the body of letters. Please note the star on the handwriting sheet reflects which way round the page should be!

Good behaviour reward cards

(1)
Cut out and laminate these cards to create a physical way to give reward/house points. During a lesson I will hand out these cards. The children then record a house point for each card they recieve and then return the cards to a container. A great way to provide visual reinforcement in the classroom. The children in my class love getting them, and it also serves as a reminder to add their house point to our classes house point chart!
