Here is an escape-room style activity for pupils in Year 4, or Year 5 as a recap activity. It contains 6 rounds (Roman Numerals, core operations, area, perimeter, time, coordinates and problem solving) and requires teamwork to crack a series of codes and open a box. There is a story and set of riddles throughout - the children have to first work out what they are being asked to solve!
Typically, this activity lasts a few hours and can be spread throughout a day or across a week’s Math’s lessons.
There is a clear set of instructions which outlines how to set the game up, as well as indications of adaptations so it is accessible with minimal equipment. It contains all the resources for 6 rounds (+choice of perimeter or area) and a results table. There are opportunities for differentiation within the groups.
