Initial Sound Pictures - Phase 2, Set 1

(0)
An Early Years phonics activity that will help children learn the initial sounds from Phase 2, set 1 (s,a,t,p) by identifying and circling the pictures. Phonics is a strategy that will help teach reading and writing to young learners. This resource was last updated on 10th June 2024 with a ‘challenge’ question on each of the activities to accommodate differentiation. Each sheet has pictures that start with an initial sound from Phase 2, set 1 (or set 2 to accommodate any higher ability children). How I use this resource: Print off each sheet for individual use or use as a whole class/small group activity on your whiteboard. Show the children the target initial sound on the sheet. Encourage the children to identify each picture and model listening for the first sound in each picture. Ask the children to listen again and circle the correct pictures as instructed on each sheet. Emphasise the target initial sound once completed to encourage self-assessment and remind the children how the sound is represented (the grapheme).
