These are editable reading certificates for key stage 1 children as they move up through each coloured book band (red, yellow, blue, green, orange, turquoise, purple, gold, white, lime, brown). They were made to encourage children to read more at home and take more responsibility with their reading. Children love competing with each other and try to move through the colours as quickly as possible. We have a display which compliments the certificates.

Differentiated Year 1 worksheets for children to attempt to work out number bonds to 20 independently.

The children who are less confident are given the number bonds to workout.

The children who are more confident have to find their own number bonds to 20.

The children who know their number bonds to 20 are challenged to use the commutative law to find all number bonds to 20.

This is a Year 1 unit of work on Instructions based around the story ‘The Lorax’ and our wonderful planet Earth, it took a little over 2 weeks to complete. It brings about lovely discussions in Year regarding our planet and conservation. PowerPoints and accompanying worksheets are supplied.

Previous to this unit, the book, The Lorax, will need to have been read and an idea developed for the children’s writing outcome. We made Truffula Trees from died cotton wool and pipe cleaner as a hook then set about developing the children’s instructional writing in order to write a final piece about ‘How to Take Care of the Truffula Trees’.

Day 1: make Truffula Trees using died cotton wool and pipe cleaner.

Day 2: draw comparisons between Truffula trees and trees in the real world. Go outside, explore, take pictures, celebrate the greatness of nature with the children. Elicit from them the importance of trees and why they should be looked after. Write idea on flipchart and display. To help children who struggle to read, you could represent ideas pictorially as well.

Day 3: Bossy verbs at home and school (PowerPoint and Worksheet Supplied).

Day 4: Bossy verbs with the Lorax(PowerPoint and Worksheet Supplied) .

Day 5: Time order words to sort order of the story, The Lorax (PowerPoint and Worksheet Supplied).

Day 6: Plan pictorially the steps.

Day 7: model intro and allow children to write own intro.

Day 8: write steps and for those who write quicker than most, they could add a top tip.

Day 9: Feedback, teacher input on common mistakes. In Year 1, we will then give children a worksheet to correct.

Day 10: publish, read and celebrate work.

Children learn to subtract from 20 by using the frames or objects provided and crossing out what is being taken away.

With a number line, children could also try counting backwards if confidence level is high.

Children will use the worksheet to colour in different 2D shapes based on the key below. The sheets are differentiated dependent on confidence level with geometry.

The challenge are ideas taken from White Rose Maths Hub.

Differentiated worksheets where children make patterns with 2D shapes or identify the pattern already shown.

Can be used as an introduction to 2D shapes or as a way to really embed the names of shapes.

Differentiated worksheets to help children visualize and count in groups of five with two challenges to choose from dependent on confidence and security with counting in fives.

Differentiated worksheet where Year 1 children have to try and subtract by crossing through 10. They are encouraged to see the number they are taking away as 2 smaller parts, the first part gets you to 10 and the second part is what’s left.

It is very important that children know all their number bonds below 10 really well in order to be successful at this lesson.

A number line accompanies each calculation to help children see the idea of using the 10 to help subtract quickly and efficiently.

This is a lesson for Year 1 children based on the NCETM maths mastery scheme. It is also part of the curriculum prioritisation scheme. It is part of the unit 1.10: Composition of numbers: 11 - 19 where children are taught about the idea of ten and a bit.

The resources you can download are a editable PowerPoint and editable set of worksheets. There is 2 worksheets which are slightly differentiated but with NCETM, the idea is that the majority of children should be moving along together doing the same work. Children can be supported with a number line.

Children could also attempt this work practically by printing out the practical activity.

A worksheet based on the White Rose Scheme of work for Year 1 students where they have to identify 2-digits by counting in groups of 10s and 1s.

Included in this resource are 2 worksheets which accompany the NCETM Year 1 lesson on adding and subtraction 2 from an odd number and adding or subtracting 2 from an even number. Children explore the concept of consecutive even number numbers and consecutive odd numbers to help them solve calculations involving add or subtracting 2.

Year 1 differentiated worksheets which set the foundations to begin learning about multiplication. In these worksheets, children will learn to organize arrays and make links to repeated addition which can then lead to the beginnings of multiplication.

The challenges are ideas from White Rose Hub.

Differentiated addition activities for Year 1 children to learn the concept of counting on.

The children who are not feeling so confident will work with mainly numbers under 10 to help learn the concept.
