AQA 2016 new spec - Weather hazards in the UK
The PowerPoint is two hours of teaching time. The lesson is based around students researching different examples of weather events in the UK to be able to address why the UK's weather is becoming more extreme. Split the class into 6 equal groups, give each group a different weather event. They have to convert it into drawings and diagrams using no more than ten words. One person from each group will teach the class their topic, while the reminder of the group research the other topics. Original groups then reform and share information for a test and exam question.

A lesson designed around some of the key issues around the 2016 Olympics. A mystery is used to explore the potential threat of the Zika virus. For higher ability students other issues in Brazil's cities are explored to allow students to critically assess the issues surrounding world events and the geographical effects of these events. There is an LA version and a key term definition sheet to develop literacy.

Syria: A child's crisis
This lesson is designed to use with GCSE, however, can be adapted for both key stage 3 and 5.
The idea is around helping students understand the impacts of the Syrian conflict on children and the economy. The aim is to grasp an understanding of what forced migration is and the impacts it creates.
Activities are all challenging tasks - create, justify, evaluate, prioritise - so not necessarily right or wrong answers.
Exam prep - using resources and information, making choices and justifying these decisions considering the key idea of sustainability.
