Created for the European Day of Languages. Pupils work in teams of 4. They watch clips of about a minute of songs from Eurovision Song Contest and try to work out which country the singer(s) are representing. Also included a handout of the possible countries and an answer sheet.

I’ve just spent too many hours putting together lessons for the point de départ of module 4 (de la ville à la campagne) for my year 10 class (higher). Mixture of activities, including all from the book with some extras thrown in; worksheets provided also. Answers on powerpoints and links to the online textbook for the listening exercises (you will need your own login).

All for free as I’d like as many people as possible to have an easier life! If you’re feeling grateful, maybe make a donation to a charity?

Let me know if there are any mistakes (and sorry if there are!)

Some more lessons I put together for my year 10 class (AQA higher):

Speaking game for AS level German based on the Radio 4 game 'Just a Minute'.

A pupil says 'stop' to get a question from the powerpoint. They must talk without hesitation, deviation or repetition for a minute about that question.

Other pupils can lodge an 'Anfechtung' if they believe that the person speaking has hesitated/deviated/repeated. If the teacher is in agreement, the challenger receives a point and then must talk on the subject themselves until either a minute is up or a challenge is lodged against them.

Can make simpler for lower ability by allowing some hesitation/lowering the time limit.

Questions on the topics of families, relationships, healthy living, drugs, alcohol, fashion and use of technology (phones and internet).

To stop the powerpoint from whizzing through the slides, press S.

A handout that I made to give to the most able in my top set German GCSE class to stick in the back of their books as a sort of checklist when doing writing/speaking tasks so that they are always pushing themselves to include complex language/structures.
