British Victorian Composers

This is a powerpoint to encourage the children to find out about Victorian British composers. It gives you suggestions as to who they can choose and hyperlinks to find out more about them. I did have examples of their music but it was too complicated to add. There is also a homework task at the end.

A power point to show ideas of the kind of instruments the Vikings might have played. We began with a class discussion as to how we might know what they played, and how would we know what they sounded like.

I have been looking for a puppet template with moving arms and legs for an activity, and resorted to making one myself. We will join the arms and legs with split pins, having coloured and cut out. The children loved doing this, they were making a Flat Stanley and it was a Huge success!

This version incorporates traditional carols and modern Chirstmas songs. In our version the reception class will build up the tableau and the Year 6 pupils will be the narrators. Just wanted to add that this was a very successful evening, and it was great to have the parents singing also during the 'performance'.

This is a powerpoint I used to introduce the artist Patrick Caulfield. The last piece of art, Pottery, is the one we were particularly looking at. We did sketches of different pots and vases and then copied their favourite onto a sheet of coloured paper and cut out to make our own version. The idea was initiated from the 'Art in a Box' from the Tate museum.

Timeline

The new curriculum requires children to develop an understanding of the history of music. I have devised a timeline that the children can build on over the 4 years of Key Stage 2. There is also included two pictures that can be used for the cover of the sheets. The timeline info makes a small book about the composer - the example is Richard Wagner, which is then stuck into the relevant musical period.
