Suggestions for use:
This resource could be laminated or placed inside a clear board and be used with a whiteboard pen. It can be used with any text. Pupils can work on this individually, with other children, or can be completed as a whole class!

Background: The 3 Sharings was developed by Aidan Chambers in 1994 to help learners explore different texts more deeply. You can use the 3 Sharings with a class novel, children’s reading books or as a way for children to review/suggest texts to one another.

Whilst/after reading a text, children can share their:

  • Likes and Dislikes: what parts of the texts did the child (not) enjoy and why?
  • Puzzles: what was difficult to understand? What would the child like to know more about?
  • Connections: how does the relate to what the child already knows? What connections can they make to their life, the life of others, the world or other texts?
