Suitable for GCSE students studying ‘Macbeth’ at GCSE Level.

This is just a response I wrote to showcase analytical skills and how to structure an essay.

Try asking students to read this exemplar and then write an essay to a different question in a similar fashion.

My essay loosely follows this following structure

  1. Make a point relating to a specific theme/technique
  2. Develop the point with evidence and signposting linguistic features.
  3. Interpret, analyse and link to different parts of a passage.
  4. Write a mini conclusion about the point made. Comment on the effect of the technique (s) discussed

Really helpful for working with GCSE students as it enables them to see the differences that they can make to their grades. Used the higher level exemplars with the highlighting taken out so that the students could then go through and identify for themselves after working on the level 4 and 5 exemplars. They find the opening paragraphs particularly hard to star so these are really useful essays to work with. Many thanks.

A useful exemplar. I've used it to get my pupils to highlight what they feel confident they can do, and what skills they still need to develop.
