This resource is formed to assist students with an independent reading of “Piranesi” by Susanna Clarke. The guide begins with pre-reading tasks regarding genre, intertextuality, and psychoanalysis to preview and help inform the analysis of the novel. From here, students complete close-reading questions and analysis through the lens of a variety of narrative conventions (conflict; characterisation; narrative structure, etc.). This also includes vocabulary acquisition activities to further enrich the reading. The summative task involves a literary analysis essay to consolidate the analysis. The pack was created for Year 10 students, but with appropriate adaptive teaching, could be used for all secondary students. Thank you!
