An inquiry into who was responsible for Jesus' death. Includes lesson and all resources.

A great lesson for ks3 pupils (year 8- year 9). Included is a powerpoint that sets up the enquiry question ‘who killed Jesus’.
Learning objectives is to justify a decision about who killed Jesus. Also ties in with the idea of ‘responsibility’.

Lesson is set up as an enquiry. Pupils to be in groups of 4, each pupil is focused on a key suspect (Judas, Pontius pilate, Jospeh Caliphas and ‘part of Gods’ plan). Differentiate by groups.

Pupils can focus on one of the suspects then report back to their groups, recording their findings and each others on the worksheet attached.

I developed this as part of a ks3 syllabus on Jesus and it worked very well as the pupils were able to think creatively and use analytic and evaluative skills.

challenge questions are also included throughout the lesson and the lesson ends with a creative writing task: ‘Write a letter to the Judge of this case explaining who you think is responsible for the death of Jesus.’ Differentiation is included (letter template and addtional challenge paragraph for more able).

Timers are inserted on the powerpoint also to help keep pace, if required.
