AQA A Level English Lit Scars Upon my Heart full SOW

Full SOW to teach a selection of the poety in Scars Upon my Heart for the AQA Texts in Shared Contexts Paper. The lessons are organised thematically and cover themes of grief, changing women’s roles, home front, front line, VAD experience, propaganda, anti-war and the gulf between male and female experience. There are a range of academic articles linked to frame understanding and tasks to support critical thinking. There are essay tasks, homework and pre-reading tasks before each new lesson.

Note: I teach A level in seminar fashion - I don’t use powerpoints and instead sit with the students and discuss the ideas, making notes in the top sheets which contain all handouts and info. I find this aids folder organisation and any missed lessons and ensures productivity rather than makin copious notes from a powerpoint.
