This Power Point of 18 slides introduces the formulas for calculating the area of Squares Rectangles Triangles Parallelograms Trapeziums and Circles. It begins with the six formulas, these are repeated and explained as each shape is considered and also at the end of the slides. The first shapes considered are shown with grid squares to highlight the advantage of using formula rather than counting parts. Each shape formula is explained and used in examples; these are followed by 3 or 4 practice questions. There are two practical questions on slides 17 and 18, the 1st requires 5 area calculations of rooms in a small flat, the 2nd needs 8 calculations to find the area of garden beds and lawn, these two questions are copied onto a worksheet included here if you choose to use it, but can be worked from the smartboard.
