An adaptable card sort game to help candidates learn and understand all the mechanisms required for AQA AS Chemistry. Written for the current spec (first teaching 2015) and including the new ones - dehydration of an alcohol and alkenes with steam.
There are 5 categories of card which allow the resource to be used in a number of ways. The first category shows the displayed formula of the starting material with the reagent, the second is the mechanism name, the third and crucial for understanding is the displayed formula of the intermediate. the fourth the displayed formula of the product and the fifth, the name of the product.
The simplest forms include simple nomenclature or matching the mechanism name with the reaction. More challenging is to add in the reactive intermediates or alternatively remove the displayed formulae of the product to make matching the name of the product more difficult.
