This informative, engaging and original assembly aids children in understanding what autism is and how to help make their school a happy and inclusive place for everyone. This is achieved through helping children to:

  • Understand what autism is and how it can affect people in different ways;
  • Consider how people with autism may feel in certain situations and thinking of ways in which they can be helped and supported;
  • Reflect on the amazing achievements of autistic people from across society.

This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people.

It includes links to two extremely fitting and inspiring videos (hyperlinked into the slides). The first is a beautiful, age-appropriate description of what autism is and how someone with the world might perceive autism. The second is a link to a song/ video put together and performed by students with autism. The lyrics fit perfectly with the main messages of the assembly.

The assembly can feasibly be used with students of all ages, but was originally created for primary school children. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!
