This resource was designed for Australian VCE Biology Unit 3, AOS 1, outcome 1 requirements for a practical relating to cellular respiration.
This is an interactive slide show for virtual measurements of respiration rates at different temperatures.
A respirometer is shown with animated movement of a food colour droplet in the glass tube pipette. A thermometer is displayed, and a timer starts on click.
Students can take measurements for 3 fixed temperature setups.
Students need to read the scales of the pipette and thermometer, and keep records of time points. Total duration of simulation for each temperature set-up is 30 seconds. Students can restart the simulations and move between setups.
A matching worksheet scaffolds all science skill applications from planning to data presentation.
