An anthology designed for student enrichment in connection with Black History Month. It contains extracts from autobiography (Lemn Sissay’s A Boy Named Why), a verse novel (Dean Atta’s Black Flamingo) and prose fiction (Bernardine Evaristo’s Girl, Woman, Other), and an interview with British-Somali author Nadifa Mohamed. There are multiple choice quizzes for each text (used to check understanding and as a means of stimulating thinking and discussion), links to other resources connected to each author, and a creative task for students to complete in response to their reading.
