Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in chapter summaries.
The novel, reduced to five sections, with short literacy tasks at the end of each section. Great for KS2 students looking at comprehension, or for lower ability KS3 students.
Use one section per lesson as a starter or plenary, or set the classroom up into five 'stations' where students must read the section, answer the questions and then move on to the next section (involves independent learning and a bit of physical activity in the classroom). Peer assess the answers at the end of the sessions.
Aimed at Reading Level 3c - 4a with some challenging (and old fashioned) vocabulary.
