Comparing Fractions using the Butterfly Method Google Slides and Worksheets

In this fractions activity, students will use the butterfly method (or cross multiplying method) to compare two fractions with unlike denominators. There are 3 sets of no prep worksheets and a set of 36 digital google slides to help students build fluency in this important skill.

Each worksheet starts with a step by step example for students to follow and to enable independent learning. Each google slide has editable text boxes and draggable comparison symbols.

There are three types of worksheet included (each with the same 36 questions):

1. A colour coded set with pre-formatted butterfly wings.
2. A black and white set with pre-formatted butterfly wings.
3. A black and white set where students are able to draw their own butterfly wings.

This is a great activity for independent practice in class, small group work, test prep, assessment or homework.

An answer key is also included.
