Consonant Blends CCVC Differentiated Activity Card Strips- Phase 4 CCVC

Relates to Letters and Sounds: Phase 4 CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words. The vowel will represent one sound and can be a vowel, digraph or trigraph, e.g. fright - f-r-igh-t.

Aimed at: Years 1 and 2 and/or children still finding it challenging to segment and blend, ESL/EFL students and SEN students.

Use in English language learning classes - use pictures as a visual prompt to segment and blend words.

• 4 sets of differentiated initial consonant blend strips - each set contains 21 initial consonant blends.

• Plain strips - Children look at the picture, read the word and write it out.

• Trace over dots strip - Children look at picture, trace over dots and then write out the word

• Trace over dash lines - Children practise tracing over the words

• Jumbled word strip - Using the picture as a clue, children sound out and write the word correctly.

• Children can practise reading, segmenting and blending words.

• Discriminate between initial blends beginning with the same phoneme - clap-crab.

As an extension: Write up the word in their workbooks and write a simple sentence with the word using it as a verb, noun or adjective.

You have the option of reducing the strips on the photocopier, cut out and stick into children’s workbooks to record phonic work.
