So I see my students doing lots of things during DEAR/IDR time that they're not supposed to...from spending half the time finding the book, to "reading" upside down, to "starting from the middle," etc...you name it. Anything to get out of actually doing it.
This log includes a column for the date, the time they start and end reading, and the page they started and ended on each time. This way they can use it whenever they read during the day - after a test, during whole class DEAR/IDR time, or if they have free time and read.
I plan on starting this tomorrow - they will be accountable for every time they read so I don't find them still reading the same book weeks later!
