I used activity for a final double lesson with a Cambridge Nationals class after covering properties of materials and choices. It involves designing a shoe, starting with the customer and properties they would like in a shoe and goes through to cover some details like mass, strength, flexibility, cost etc. to try and put object design in context Students chose a type of shoe to design and created a poster with lots of materials I brought in from home. Lots of fun and covers key concepts such as measuring area/volume, spider charts, density calculations.
