This Latching alarm project is a great way to introduce students to the role of the thyristor.
The students can follow the guide to design their own PCBs. My students use a key switch and magnetic proximity switch, they love the idea that if someone breaks into their room then they won't be able to turn the alarm off unless they have the key! My students make a vacuum formed case, there is a 2D design file included within the zipped file, you can use this as a starting point to make your mould, or you can just make your own.
Included is an E-Portfolio template with great instructions showing students what they need to do. The weekly how 2 guide can be used to set lesson objectives. There is an emphasis on independent learning and analysis. Homework activities support learning.
