This lesson concludes the EDUQAS GCSE COMP 2, MUSIC VIDS (SEC B) 2024 ONWARDS: MUSIC VIDEO UNIT. It is a TRIPLE lesson (LESSON 7-9) ON TLC’s ‘Waterfalls’ music video. This lesson focuses on:

-Zeitgeist.
-Allegory and motif.
-The context behind 1990’s Gang Violence and the H.I.V./ AIDS crisis.
-The context of the LA riots and Rodney King.
-Archetype
-Countertype
-Stereotype
-Marginalisation
-Underrepresentation
-Tokenism
-Hegemonic/ maligned mass
-Contexts applied to ‘Waterfalls’
-Selection and combination exemplar on ‘Waterfalls’ before student embed tasks.
-Hypersexualization of women in the Hip-Hop/ R&B.
-Social realism
-Step-by-step breakdown of the following question with task/ indicative content support task:

  1. How do music videos reflect the time in which they were made? Refer to Rio (Duran Duran, 1982) or Waterfalls (TLC, 1995) to support your points. [10]

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at GCSEl, as a three-year Course. Moreover, some of the tasks in lesson and for H/W are dependent upon owning the EDUQAS GCSE Revision Guide from Illumination Publishing.
