This is an extract based activity on a popular novel, The Lion , the Witch and the Wardrobe. Students will be able to bring lots of contextual knowledge to discussions about this text. There are lots of activities, including assessing prior knowledge of the text, establishing facts about winter / snow and thinking about the effects of snow melting.
This extract gives students a simplified and broken down way of accessing the text. The first part poses comprehension and language activities to ensure the text is carefully read. This lesson can easily be edited for the AQA or Edexcel exam specification. It is suited to KS3 students, but can easily be adapted for able KS2 students.
This resource can be used for an Xmas themed lesson, as the extract is taken from the point in the novel where it is ‘always winter but never Christmas’!
