This lesson provides a step by step method of understanding the Prince’s Speech in Act 1 Scene 1 and its purpose and effects. It is suitable for KS3 students, or for weaker KS4 students who find Shakespeare’s language difficult.
The activities include analysing the language and the impact of Shakespeare’s use of language by identifying techniques and their effects. There are also comprehension questions to ensure students have full understanding of the meaning of the speech.
The lesson also includes writing tasks, both to demonstrate understanding of the text, and also to enable students to explore the purpose and impact of the text.
