4 activities to introduce and practise the language included in 'Dans mon sac', as well as 'Colours' and rules about these (gender, agreement etc).

(1) Intro to Bag Items worksheet. Pictures to label, using the French vocab at bottom of page. Masc and Fem highlighted with red and blue. Labelling can be done by copying or cutting and sticking.
Encourage students to match language without using book, as many words can be recognised as cognates or near-cognates.
This activity gives students the independence to work out new language and to work as a team, with a partner.

(2) Battleships speaking game in pairs. **Students need to know 'J'ai, Tu as, Il a and Elle a' for this**
3 levels of game (Gold - more able, Silver - middle ability and Bronze - less able). Students make sentences in French, saying what items are in a school bag.

(3) Word document with 2 sets of large-font sentences in French, using bag items, numbers, colours and connectives.
This could be used in different ways...
a) Running dictation in 2 teams
b) Cut up sentences for 2 teams and they have to re-order sentences correctly, by standing in a line and holding up the words. Give a time limit.
c) Running translation in 2 teams
d) Class in groups with both sentences on table. Quickest student to put hand up and give French or English that you ask for, gets a point.
Extension - students could adapt details in sentences.

(4) Colours Info with Bag Items - worksheet. 3 parts to sheet, can be printed 2 pages into 1 (font size 14) so students have both pages on one A4 sheet. These sheets again promote Independent Learning and not using a textbook or teacher for the most part. Get students to discuss in pairs and work out new language and patterns, rules etc.

More difficult colours to work out by using bag items already known. Example given.

Activity 2
Using activity 1 and also cognates etc, choose correct French colours to match with each coloured shape. Example given.

Activity 3
Translation and Spot the Mistakes in sentences. Use the first 2 activities and knowledge of bag items, to complete this. Extension could be to make own sentences in French, using items, colours and quantities.
