Fireship is a third person narrative set in the time of the Spanish Armada. It is told from the point of view of Beth, a ten-year-old girl from London, who sets out on a mission to find her older brother, Owen.

Rationale
This story was written to support reading and writing during the second Covid-19 lockdown when the majority of our Year 5 class were learning from home. The topic at the time was ‘Off With Her Head’, a Cornerstones topic based on the Tudors.
It was intended to be set over 5 parts, but it grew as children were highly engaged.
The weblinks are to my own blog, which outlines my thought process, both in terms of the structure of the story and the pedagogy. It also discusses student engagement.
