FLE resource in PDF format for printing + interactive PDF. This resource is also available in animated and illustrated PowerPoint format to talk about unemployment with a group of A2/B1 students.

If you’re too lazy to read, watch this video, I’ll explain everything: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZATzYvIKFU

Begin this worksheet with a warm-up to introduce the topic of unemployment and its issues. The aim of this introduction is to get different opinions and knowledge from the students about unemployment.

Listening about unemployment.

Did you know that some regions are more affected by unemployment than others? This is what the listening comprehension lesson is about. Watch the video below.

In this document you will be given a concrete explanation of why the unemployment rate differs from one region to another. This listening consists of seven questions in the form of MCQs. To make it easier, the interactive PDF allows learners to mark the questions directly on the copy from their computer, phone or tablet. Then they can send it to you if you want to check who has done the job. This listening should be done twice.

Grammar & vocabulary.
Grammar:

The objective of this small grammar point is to express a professional situation. It is useful for both working and unemployed people. It is followed by an exercise to put into practice the theory they have just learned.

Vocabulary:

To see the vocabulary of jobs your students will do a classic exercise. They will see an image and have to write the job that corresponds to that image. The interactive PDF format will show a list to select the corresponding job. This step is essential to start playing.

The unemployment game: who gets fired?

This game is very easy to understand. You have to lay out the job cards on the table and make sure they know the names of the jobs they learned earlier in the exercise.

Example:

First form two teams and lay four cards “face up” on the table.
Then you ask both teams to close their eyes.
Then you have to remove a card. The first team to find the card you removed wins a point.

"The optician is unemployed / does not work / is unemployed". So you get the idea, basically they have to use a grammar point expression.

If you’re teaching online it’s easy, you lay out the cards in PowerPoint format and make one or two of them disappear. The first team to tell you which one disappeared using the expressions from the work situation gets a point.

This is all. If you want a complete sheet to talk about nature and gardening click here.
