The new GCSE requires students to be able to speak confidently and accurately, translate from French, use authentic cultural texts and have a good understanding of grammar. During my teaching career, I have found French songs excellent to both engage but also deepen these language skills for all students.
Here are my Top 10 French songs I have used with a class (KS3 or KS4)
For each song the lyrics have been hyperlinked to a video on a powerpoint. Also there are worksheets for most of the songs with a range of activities such as:
• Translations
• Gap fills
• Expressing opinions on the song
• Comprehension reading tasks
There is also a powerpoint (which can be printed out as a Learning Mat)
Here is a list of the songs
1. Aux arbres citoyens- Yannick Noah
2. C’est les vacances – Ilona
3. Green washing- Tryo
4. La panique- Manu Chao
5. Le petit cheval – George Brassens
6. J’aime les filles- Jacques Dutronc
7. Le Cactus- Jacques Dutronc
8. Pomme C – Calogero
9. Les Restos du Coeur- Les Enfoirés
10. Le lion est mort ce soir
